Charles & Reid Detroit Pizza in Traverse City

Having lived in Detroit for over ten years now I know a good Detroit Style Pizza when I eat one! This place gets my stamp of approval. We stopped into Charles & Reid Detroit Pizza this week on one of the hottest days of the summer. Maybe Craig and I are crazy but this place had great reviews so we turned the eat up for a couple slices! 

When you walk in there are menus on the counter in front of the cash register. You place your order at the register. We were greeted by a lovely cashier and the phone was ringing quite frequently. For a Tuesday afternoon, I'd say they were very busy! You can order small or large pizzas or you can get pizza by the slice! We ordered a large pep in YO step and waited around 30 minutes for it to bake. 

When I tell you it was HOT out side, IT WAS 95 degrees. We were cooled by an ice cold bottle of water that we poured into ice filled glasses. Some how we acclimated to the heat while waiting. 

  The pizza came out and it smelled amazing! We were offered pepper flakes and / or parmesan to top off the pizza. We opted for parmesan. When the pizza finally cooled off we grabbed a slice and dang this pizza is so good! If you've never had Detroit style pizza let me explain. It's a baked pan style so the shape is rectangular. The crust is at least half an inch thick, then toppings are added and sauce on top.  It is not the same as Chicago style. You just have to come try it some time! The pizza made at this spot is delicious and I highly recommend trying it next time you are around the city! The sauce is a highlight. The crust is delightful.
