Little Falls, NY is a fantastic get away about 30 minutes from Utica. I can't speak on the food there, even though there are a few restaurants in the area, They do have a couple fabulous shops to check out. Most notably Fall Hill Bead & Gem and a couple fairly large antique shops. If you ever get the chance to check this city out, I hope it's on a day the shops are open!
