Why ASPECT?
The word ASPECT popped into my head while brainstorming names for the collection. I wanted it to be called something alluring. Nothing too specific, nothing corny, or too contextualized, I wanted it to make people think. I wanted there to be a bit of a mystery to be decoded while viewing the pieces on the runway. The planets, stars, and sky have been looked up to, studied and pondered for thousands of years. We've gained a tremendous amount of knowledge from these ponderings. This day and age is no different. I sometimes wonder if people even remember to look up anymore at all. As I've been designing the collection I've been looking up to the sky. out to the stars, and into books learning about astrology. The lore in different times in different eras of humanity. What has been true forever? What feelings have been felt by people through time, across cultures, in every life cycle? The mysteries of what exists beyond earth have always intrigued me. Is it possible to use astrology to help us understand ourselves, one another, the world? This makes my brain light up. The mysteries and miracles of our universe are endlessly inspiring. In the context of astrology, aspects are how planets relate to other celestial bodies on a birth chart or in a horary reading. We are always moving around through time, through space, and Aspects are simply a fragment of the whole or a moment in time. The collection is zodiac constellation inspired. The fabrics tell a story by relating to one another. This is a thread of connection throughout an otherwise rebellious and punkish collection. There will be one look for each zodiac sign and four other looks depicting elements of some sort. The colors and patterns will connect different looks to one another, kind of like aspects in a chart. Wind element zodiac signs may share a certain color fabric and zodiacs ruled by a certain planet may include a specific patterned fabric. I didn't want the name or designs to be so obvious or in your face that the collection is inspired by the zodiac though! Now you know! My hope is that the bright, bold, and playful energy of ASPECT will make you want to get to know yourself better, to be fearless in your self expression, and live authentically. Know who you are, LOVE who you are. That seems to be a reoccurring message in my work. Without saying too much, I hope the ASPECT Collection tickles your mind! As I like to say... Bold is the dress code!
